5 Surprising facts about Sasha Obama

Despite what some people think about Barack Obama’s performance as The President of the United States of America, it would be unwise to argue with the fact that he did an exceptional job raising his two daughters, Malia and Sasha successfully.

When the Obama family first moved into the White House in 2009, Malia and Sasha were 10 and 8 years old, respectively. Sasha was born on June 10, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois at the University of Chicago Hospital. Despite the Obamas being thrust into the national and international limelight, little about the girls was known for years. This is because their image was kept tightly controlled, with Sasha even less known.

Profile

Natasha Obama attended the University of Chicago Laboratory School in Chicago until her family moved to Washington D.C. in 2009.

  • Date of birth: 10 June 2001 in Chicago, Illinois, United States
  • Official name: Natasha Obama
  • Education: Sidwell Friends School (2009–2019), University of Chicago Laboratory Schools
  • Grandparents: Marian Shields Robinson, Fraser C. Robinson III, Ann Dunham, Barack Obama Sr.
  • Siblings: Malia Ann Obama
  • Parents: Barack Obama, Michelle Obama

She is the youngest kid to have lived in the White House.

Sasha was only 8 years old, when Barrack became the US President in 2009. This made her one of the youngest people to live in the White House, since John F. Kennedy Jr. presidency, in 1961.

Sasha is not her birth name?

For the entire duration of Obama’s presidency, everybody knew his younger daughter as Sasha, but, would you believe that this is not her real name? Well, her real name is Natasha Obama. This was revealed in 2016, when she had to use her birth name to apply for a summer job at a seafood restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard.

She suffered a health scare as an infant

Did you know that Sasha contracted meningitis at the age of 3 months? No parent would receive such a medical report with ease and Mr. Obama was not an exception. Much later after she had recovered, the former president confessed that the health scare was one his toughest moments.

She took up a summer job like an ordinary citizen

Did you know that Sasha Obama spent a summer, working at a busy seafood restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard? This seems like the Obamas’ unique parenting strategy that sought to help the girl experience what it feels like to live and work like an ordinary citizen

She is best friends with Maisy Biden

As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Sasha is best friends with Maisy Biden, the former vice president Joe Biden’s granddaughter. They attended school together at Sidwell Friends, where they both played on the school’s basketball and soccer teams.

At 18 years of age Sasha has managed to cope with poise, maturity and positive attitude. Evidently, she exhibits a solid and more pleasant personality and many are looking forward to her first voluntary public interview in Michelle Obama’s Netflix documentary book, Becoming.

zindzi mandela burial

What caused Zindzi Mandela’s death?

It is now officially confirmed that Zindzi Mandela, the youngest daughter of former South African President Nelson Mandela, and the late anti-apartheid activist Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a casualty of the raging COVID19 pandemic

The Mandela family publicly relayed the sad news that Zindzi passed on, due to Covid-19 related complications shortly after testing positive.

Ms. Mandela, aged 59, passed on in a Johannesburg hospital, in the wee hours of Monday morning. Until her death, she was South Africa’s Ambassador to Denmark.

The Mandela family declared Zinzdi’s Covid-19 status against the family’s strict policy which prohibits the sharing of family health matters with the public

This cautious practice gained currency in the final years of Madiba’s life when speculation was rife regarding his health

The sad news comes as the COVID storm engulfing the country has threatened schools’ closure again, possibly for the remaining part of the academic year.

Zindzi’ son Zondwa Mandela, was quoted saying;

Simply by virtue that there was a positive test, we are therefore obligated to function and work within the framework of the existing regulations related to such cases”

The anti-apartheid icon will be buried on Friday.

Ms. Mandela’s death has sobered up even the most skeptical South Africans, to the necessity of taking the pandemic seriously.

From the several cases reported around the world, it is quite clear that regardless of one’s station or status, no one is entirely safe from the pandemic’s worst consequences.

This painful lesson is wholly embraced by the majority of teachers who resumed duties in early June. Apparently, South African teachers are dissatisfied with the proposed plans for further re-opening, despite recurrent outbreaks in schools.

Ironically, the task force appointed by President Ramaphosa to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic has admitted the existence of hundreds of incidents among SA’s 26,000 schools.

What is curious is the team’s insistence that “only a small percentage” is infected, because schools were opened after thorough fumigation.

The position taken by The Taskforce has left teachers and many parents unhappy and generally disgruntled

Earlier, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party’s union ally, the SA Democratic Teacher’s Union (SADTU), warned that it would withdraw all its members from classes if re-opening proved unsafe.

How does it work?

Internet network is mostly broadcast via fixed antennas, which are heavy in infrastructure and not very efficient in the event of terrain. On the other hand, the balloons use helium, equipped with antennas and powered by photovoltaic panels (powered by solar panels). They fly in the atmosphere at a certain high altitude well above storms and airliners. They raise or lower in the sky to take advantage of air currents. The service has shown download speeds of 18.9Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of 4.7Mbps.

The balloons cover rural and suburban populations around Kenya providing (4G) coverage to areas with lower population densities. Many Kenyans can now take advantage of the improved telecommunication infrastructure to advance their social economic activities.

Clutching onto unbreakable Guinness World Records could be extremely fulfilling and heart-warming.

To what extent are ladies going to look beautiful?

The word beauty carries a broad meaning that transcends the human physical attributes. This concept seems to evolve all the time and hence women are doing everything they can to fit into society’s ever changing expectations to look beautiful.

Bleaching of the skin

A lady with glowing skin without blemishes and lighter complexion is admired by many. This is because society has coined the beautiful as ‘rangi ya thao,’ a phrase that associates beauty more with the lighter-skin. With this, most ladies with a darker skin shade are bleaching to fit in.

Some famous women who have embraced bleaching include include singer Mshoza and Khanyi Mbau of South Africa. Khanyi proudly admits that her complexion is 90% cosmetic .

“The entertainment is about looks. Unfortunately, if you are darker-skinned, you have to work harder. I’ve been dark-skinned for years, and I wanted to experience the other side. I wanted to see what it’d be like to be white, and I’m happy,” she said

Bleaching offers a variety of options to choose from. You can use bleach products like creams, soaps, pills, or even go the professional way, laser therapy, or chemical peels treatment. It reduces the production or concentration of melanin on your skin resulting in lighter skin.

What are the side effects of bleaching?

  • Hydroquinone that is found in most bleaching products has adverse health effects. It is associated with signs like kidney failure, numbness, and high blood pressure, among others.
  • Dermatitis
  • Steroid acne

Body lift

This is a surgical procedure that requires an extensive incision to remove excess fat deposits, repair sagging and wrinkled skin and lift the skin to improve its appearance. Depending on where the surplus skin is located, you can choose upper, mid, lower, or full-body lift.

Women who undergo this body lift procedures have different reasons. Some don’t like how their nose, breasts, neck, or butt are positioned or appear, so they opt for a body lift. A famous actress, Jane Fonda, wrote on her blog that she had ‘work done.’

“I just had some ‘work’ done on my chin and neck and had the bags taken away from under my eyes, so I decided it would be good to get a new hair cut, so people will think it’s my new hair.”

The potential risks

  • Anesthesia risks
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Hematoma

How about breasts and hips augmentation?

Breast Augmentation

Breasts are top beauty assets in women. Most ladies fancy their breast over any other part of their body, and they take pride in how they style themselves in the clothes they wear. Other women love their clothes, hugging every ounce of their hips in a certain way.

That is what they imagine as ‘sexy.’ So if a lady is dissatisfied with their priority body feature, self-consciousness sets in, and they begin to feel less beautiful. Some women love their tits full, spongy, and bouncy.

Many celebrities find themselves on the edge of perfection to please their fans and attract more attention to advance their careers. Cardi, a hip-hop artist, drowning in fame, has been in and out of the surgery room to get her body into shape. Just recently she went to have her breasts re-done after the pregnancy of her daughter Kulture.

I just got my boobs redone. I feel good, but sometimes I feel like not, you know? When your skin is stretched out,” Cardi admits in a publication

This procedure involves the fat transfer to improve the appearance of a body section or the use of implants, devices, or tissues placed on the inside of the body. There are two types of breast implants, silicone-filled and saline-filled gel, both varying in size, shape, shell-thickness and shell-surface texture.

The pursuit of ideal beauty has cost many ladies a lot. Some are happy with the results and are excited to share their experiences while others are nursing disappointment because things went wrong and they never got the desired results

Marcus Rashford campaign forces PM Boris to change policy

PM Boris Johnson this week made a quick u-turn on providing free school meals this Summer after a tight campaign by Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

A few weeks ago, PM Boris Johnson had taken away lunch support for school going kids over May half term. Many families are finding it hard to afford a full course meal as the lock down continues to make life more difficult. Too many families were getting to a breaking point.

After a vicious campaign under the hashtag #maketheUturn, the Manchester United forward pressured the government into reconsidering the initiative following the ease of coronavirus restrictions. Now, 1.3 million children will have access to £15-a-week food meal vouchers over the school holidays. Marcus Rashford and family benefited a lot from the meals while he was young and that’s why he was so passionate.
