NTSA suspends Modern Coast Bus Express

The National Transport and Safety Authority, on December 12, 2019, suspended the operating license of the Modern Coast Bus Express Limited following a fatal collision that claimed seven lives. The crash pitting two Modern coast buses happened at a Kiongwani blackspot, which has so far had over ten accidents in the last three weeks. 

Mr. George Njao, the Director of NTSA, said that they have investigations to establish the regulator’s operations and safety standards. 

“Over the last couple of days, the Authority has been monitoring the operations of Modern Coast Bus Express Limited following reports of several near-fatal crashes,” he said

Accordingly, the body has deactivated the company’s access to its portal as the probe and examination continues on the 88 vehicles

According to NTSA records, eight men perish in road accidents daily.     

On Thursday, December 12, at 2:30 am, seven people perished, while over 60 were injured in the collision that involved two buses owned by Modern Coast Company. 

The Kiongwani blackspot is in Makueni County at an area close to Salama town along the Nairobi – Nairobi highway.
