Emotional eaters vs binge eaters

To understand what emotional eating is, let’s compare it with its opposite…binge eating. Binge eaters are people who occasionally turn to food when they’re stressed out or disappointed about something that happened in their life. Because of this, these people feel a strong urge to stuff their faces with anything available in front of them.

After a binge eating episode, they feel guilty and disgusted about losing control over themselves. Unfortunately, this negative feeling can lead to another round of emotional eating. In time, their fat cells get larger and larger until the person’s weight becomes unhealthy for his or her age and height.

Emotional eaters, on the other hand, use food to feel better when they’re emotionally stressed. Although this may seem like a good coping mechanism, it can easily turn into an uncontrollable habit that will make you gain weight fast without even noticing.
