Jeff Mwaura Koinange, a journalist and a talk show host in Kenya is a highly influential Kenyan celebrity.   He has won several awards and is to-date rated as one of the most accomplished persons with a net worth salary of 2 million shillings.

Jeff Koinange was born on January 7th, 1966. He is, therefore, 55 years old.

Education

Jeff Koinange Mwaura enrolled in Hospital Hill School in Parklands in the year 1972 and studied until 1974. In 1975 he left to join St. Mary’s and that is where he did his A-levels in 1984.

Between the year 1987-1989, Jeff was a student in Kingsborough Community College situated in Brooklyn, New York where he graduated with an associate degree. He then joined New York University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Federick Mbiyu and Hilda Ngoma  are Jeff’s parents. He was named Jeff Mwaura Koinange but more often the middle name ‘Mwaura’ tends to be ignored. Jeff is a brother to two sisters and one brother. In respective of their age, Hilda Wanjiru is the eldest followed by Phyllis Wangui then Freddie Koinange and Jeff is the lastborn. He lost his father to brain hemorrhage two months after his birth. After his father’s demise Hilda who was a teacher, raised Jeff and his siblings single-handedly.

Jeff is a husband and also a father of one. He is married to Shaila Koinange of Asian origin and they both have a son named Jamal Mbiyu Koinange, born in 2007. Before Shaila, Jeff had been engaged to Sonya but unfortunately the relationship didn’t work. Although they separated in the year 1994, Jeff and Sonya are still good friends.

 Career

Jeff koinange’s career life hasn’t begun yesterday. Although he was first employed as a flight attendant by PanAm Airlines and never thought of joining the media industry, his voice would always be applauded. During his stewardship in the airline, he would get praised by the passengers for his baritone voice most especially after making announcements. He came across a media personality in one of the flights who challenged him to make use of his voice and make a career out of it. After graduating from New York University, he worked at NBC News in 1994 as a producer and had earlier worked with ABC News from 1991 to 1992. While working for the Reuters in the year 1995 when he accepted another job  as a part-time  anchor  at Kenyan TV station (KTN). Due to his accent, he had divided attention with some appreciating him and others being put off.




In 1998, Jeff was appointed as Reuters West Africa Bureau Chief and worked until 2001 when he took the position as the Africa correspondent for CNN and CNN International. He is passionate about telling stories and while working at CNN he covered stories like the crisis in Darfur, femine in Niger, civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone, and many more which earned him numerous awards. In May 2007, he was fired by CNN, and luckily K24 TV station in Kenya hired him that same year. He would show host in K24 until December 2012.

Early 2013, Jeff joined Arise TV in Johannesburg South Africa, and worked for eight months. He then moved back to Kenya. Currently, Jeff hosts the JKL show on Citizen TV among other responsibilities

What are his hobbies?

Jeff enjoys swimming, music, and collecting African art. Speaking of music, Jeff loves country music, and back in 2015, he bugged a deal to host a radio show on Nation FM that played purely country music.
