All Systems Go as KNEC Launches National Exams Centre

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), backed by the Education Ministry, has officially launched a new national Examination Resource Centre at New Mitihani House, South C, Nairobi. This facility is designed to strengthen the national examination process, including KPSEA (Grade 6), KCPE (Grade 9), and KCSE (Form 4) assessments

What the Centre Offers

  • Training for educators and examiners on competency-based assessment, standardized marking, psychometrics, and data analysis
  • Hands-on modules using real data and anonymised learner scripts—boosting teachers’ confidence in test design and insights
  • Leadership-oriented courses for principals, deputy principals, and HODs to interpret results and drive school performance improvements
  • Parent-focused workshops to demystify exams, explain fairness protocols, and help them support their children effectively
  • Modern infrastructure, digital dashboards, simulation rooms, item-banking software, and even AI scoring tools

Why This Matters

  1. Better-equipped educators: By shifting from rote-based assessments to competency-based frameworks, KNEC aims to enhance teaching strategies and student comprehension.
  2. Increased transparency: Training for parents and school leaders builds trust in exam integrity.
  3. Data-driven teaching: Insights from psychometric and analytical tools support tailored interventions and improved learning outcomes.

The Bigger Picture

This new national Examination Resource Centre puts Kenya at the forefront of education reform in Africa, aligning with global trends in assessment that value competency and digital fluency over high-stakes testing. It shows a national shift toward using data and training as tools for educational quality, not just bureaucracy.
