“Museveni Exudes Confidence in NRM, Asserts Dominance Over Ugandan Opposition”

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has expressed unwavering confidence in his party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), emphasizing that no opposition in the country poses a significant challenge to the influence of his political outfit.

In a bold statement, Museveni highlighted the absence of a proven track record of achievements in Ugandan politics among the opposition, further solidifying his belief in his ability to overcome any oppositional forces.

“I am fully capable of defeating any opposition in Uganda. Their lack of substantial accomplishments on national issues is evident,” stated Museveni, according to the Daily Monitor publication.

Museveni’s remarks came in response to recent comments made by former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president and multiple-time Ugandan presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye. Besigye accused Museveni of “State capture” and intentionally weakening the country’s opposition through intricate means.

Besigye elaborated on the issue, describing a process of State capture that involved Museveni’s control over the military, subsequently extending influence over various institutions. According to Besigye, this capture of politics led to the commercialization of political activities, favoring the political elite and hindering other parties from adapting to the reality of State capture.

The political landscape in Uganda remains tense as Museveni’s NRM and the opposition continue to navigate their respective roles, with both sides presenting differing perspectives on the country’s governance and future direction.
