The famous Ineos 1:59 challenge hero Eliud Kipchoge has made history again by being the first person ever to receive the Gold Record Album award from Nike.
The multinational sportswear brand has honored Kipchoge in less than four weeks after he became the first person to run a 42 km marathon under 2 hours.
Newsly KE learned about the athlete’s milestone following a tweet by sports journalist Carrol Radull. The tweet read in part “Congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge who has received the first-ever Gold Album award from Nike”
What is a Gold Record Award?
Usually certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, ( RIAA), a Gold Record award is issued based on the successful performance of albums or singles on the music market.
In Kipchoges’s case, Nike packaged his audio-guided run in the Nike runner’s club app so that his fans could relive the October 12th athletic milestone.
This award comes shortly after President Uhuru Kenyatta crowned him with Elder of the Order of the Golden heart or (EGH). The award is Kenya’s highest recognition of her citizens
Commenting on the EGH award, the president said ,
” Eliud is the greatest of our time, and we must learn from his level of discipline and determination as we seek to develop a better Kenya.”
Keep going, Eliud!
